You can rate and review books in BookBeat to share what you thought of them and to help others find their next book.
The ratings page
Every book has a ratings page. You can open it in two ways:
- Tap the stars below the title on the book page.
- If the book has reviews, scroll down to below the book description. There you'll see the latest review or, for many books, an AI summary of the written reviews. Tap "All ratings and reviews" to open the ratings page.
On the ratings page, you can see:
- The book's average rating and how many ratings it has.
- Which tags have been used most to describe the book.
- What percentage of ratings have given the book each number of stars.
- Written reviews from other users, including the star rating and tags they chose.
If no average rating is shown, the book doesn't have enough ratings yet. There may still be reviews to read, though.
Rating and reviewing a book
When you reach the end of a book, the app automatically asks you to rate and review it. Tap "Finish book" in the message, then follow these steps:
- Rate the book from 1 to 5 stars. For audiobooks, you can also rate the narration from 1 to 5 stars.
- Choose descriptive tags from a list of words. They describe the plot, writing style, narration, the impact the book had on you and what you would recommend it for. You can skip this step.
- Write your own review if you want to share more about the book. You can skip this step too.
- Tap "Done" to publish your review.
You can also rate a book at any time, even if you haven't finished it. Open the ratings page and tap the stars to rate the book. For audiobooks, you can also rate the narration. Your rating is saved automatically.
Once you've rated the book, a "Write a review" button appears. Tap it to choose descriptive tags and write your review, then tap "Done" to publish it. You can only review a book after you've rated it.
Changing your rating or review
You can change your star rating at any time on the ratings page. To remove your rating, tap the same number of stars again. If you've written a review, it stays even if you remove your rating.
You can delete your written review at any time, but you can't edit it. To delete it, open the ratings page, where your review is shown below your star rating. Tap the bin icon in the upper right corner of your review. If you want to change your review, delete it and write a new one.
