If you want to download a book for offline use, tap it and then select "Download" underneath the cover. You can also press and hold the book cover anywhere in the app and choose "Download Book" from the book menu. Just make sure you have a stable internet connection while the book is downloading.
When you tap "Download", you'll see which formats are available. If the book is available as both an audiobook and an e-book, simply choose the format you want to download. E-books are also downloaded automatically when you open them to start reading, so you don't need to download them separately beforehand unless you know you won't have an internet connection when you start reading.
Once the book has finished downloading, you'll see a "Downloaded" label and an icon under the book cover. Green headphones mean the audiobook is downloaded, green glasses mean the e-book is downloaded, and a green arrow means both formats are downloaded.
Downloaded books are stored on the device where they were downloaded. If you use BookBeat on multiple devices, you'll need to download the book separately on each one.
How many books you can download mainly depends on how much free space you have on your phone or tablet. To make room for new downloads, it's a good idea to remove books you've finished or no longer need offline.
If you want to remove a downloaded book, follow these steps:
- Tap "Home" on the far left of the navigation bar at the bottom.
- Scroll down to "Downloads".
- On Android, tap "Edit". On iOS, tap the three dots in the upper right corner. Then select the book(s) you want to remove.
You can also remove a downloaded book directly from the book page. Tap the green icon under the book cover and select the option to remove the download.
Please note that your downloaded books will be removed if you log out of the app. Don't worry, though: the books will still be available under "My Saved Books" on the Home page, where you can find and download them again after logging back in.
