You can use BookBeat on an Apple Watch with watchOS 9 or newer. If you have an internet connection via Wi-Fi or eSIM, you can stream books without having your phone with you. You can even download books to your watch and listen without having to rely on your phone or internet connection.
Logging in to the Apple Watch app
You log in to the Apple Watch with the same method you use on the phone. When you are in the login view in the watch app, a pop up on your iPhone lets you use the iPhone keyboard instead for easier input.
Listening to books on the Apple Watch
The watch app shows a version of "My Saved Books" that contains the last 25 books that you have listened to or saved. The book you've listened to or saved most recently is shown first. You can also open your own book lists in the watch app by scrolling down on the home screen.
The audiobook player in the watch app is a simplified version of the one in the phone app but you can still skip forward and backward, set a timer, change the playback speed and choose between tracks.
Note that you need to have a Bluetooth speaker or headphones connected to the watch, you cannot use the watch's inbuilt speaker.
Downloading books on the Apple Watch
You can download your books to the Apple Watch by going to "My Saved Books" in the watch app. Tap on the book you want to download. You can now choose between "Listen" and "Download". Press "Download" and wait for your book to finish downloading. As soon as you book has finished downloading, a green arrow symbol will be shown on the cover. If you have trouble downloading books to your watch, you can click here for troubleshooting advice.
Switching profiles on the Apple Watch
If you have a family account, you can easily switch profiles directly in the Apple Watch app. Just scroll down on the home screen and press "Profile" to choose a different one.
